General care and feeding

Some tips on the care and feeding of your new soy candle

Some things to remember about soy candles

  • Burn Times - We recommend a burn time of around 4 hours or so. Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting. Burning a candle longer than the recommended time could cause the glass to become overheated and crack.
  • Trim the wick - Be sure to trim the wick to 1/4" before each lighting to prevent the flame from becoming to large. Also never leave wick trimmings or other debris in your candle jar.
  • Safety - Ok... I have to say it.. this is fire.. ouch!  Never leave a burning candle unattended. Always extinguish a candle when you leave a room or before going to sleep.

Be careful what you say!

Soy Candles have a memory...When you light your soy candle for the very first time, it's important to remember that it has a memory.
Always burn your soy candle until you see a full melt pool to the edge of the jar. Typically this will take a little over an hour for our 8 oz mason jar candle.  By allowing the candle to reach this full melt pool you'll experience the full scent throw of the candle.
If you don't allow it to reach this melt pool on the first burn, all subsequent burns will only ever reach the edge of the first burn (hence the memory) and will then tunnel down the center of the candle causing poor scent throw and wasted product.
If you've ever seen a soy wax candle that tunneled down the center, leaving a donut of wax all around, now you know why!
